It seems counter intuitive to do any physical exercise in the heat doesn’t it? Actually doing a bit of yoga can cool me down if I take the right approach.
If it’s hot and humid like is today in London, I can have a tendency towards swollen hands and feet, a sign that my lymph system is getting a bit sluggish. As the lymph system is driven by muscular effort, doing a bit of yoga makes sense as it will get the fluid circulating again.
The best ones I’ve found are the side stretches, particularly on the left side of my body.
Parvakonasana is a favouri
te for this. A fairly relaxed and stable base is enough for me to start stimulating my side body. The full posture (hand down to the ground) is fun but not really necessary if all I want to is get my fluid circulating.
